Job summary

ABM Industries is seeking a School Custodian to perform general cleaning duties in classrooms, hallways, restrooms and common areas across campus environments. The role supports hygiene, safety and a welcoming learning space for students and staff.

Responsibilities include cleaning, sweeping, mopping, trash/recycling management, and using cleaning chemicals safely while coordinating with supervisors and fellow staff to maintain a clean, orderly facility.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• No experience required; on-the-job training provided.
• No high school diploma, GED or college degree required.
• Preferred: prior customer service experience.

Responsibilities

• Clean and maintain assigned area, including classrooms, hallways, restrooms, locker rooms, offices and stairs.
• Sweep, remove debris, clean spills, and mop floors in designated areas.
• Regularly check trash receptacles and empty as needed in all designated areas.
• Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage.
• Notify lead cleaner or manager concerning repairs or additions to building operating systems.
• Maintain effective communication with clients, co-workers, shift coordinators, supervisors, managers.
• Collect and separate recycling into proper receptacles.
• Clean and dust desks, chairs, tables, furniture, fixtures, doors, sills, floors, ceilings and walls.
• Polish hard surfaces such as woodwork and stainless steel.
• Wipe and clean tabletops, chairs and equipment in food areas.
• Move cabinets, boxes, furniture and equipment to clean areas as needed.
• Clean interior partitions, glass, and mirrors.
• Sweep walks, rake leaves, cut grass, remove snow or seasonal tasks as needed.
• Maintain cleanliness of restrooms; perform routine polishing as needed.
• Comply with safety, security, compliance and quality standards and procedures.
