Job summary

Mead & Hunt is seeking an entry-level Roadway Design Engineer to join the Transportation team in the Washington DC metro area, including Columbia, MD; Herndon, VA; Washington, DC. The role focuses on roadway geometry, design modeling, plan preparation, and cost estimates, with exposure to AASHTO Green Book standards and MUTCD guidelines.

Ideal candidates hold a civil engineering degree and are prepared to obtain EI certification within 12 months.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field from an accredited college or university.

Responsibilities

• Develop horizontal and vertical geometry and typical sections.
• Roadway Design Modeling using Bentley Open Roads Designer or AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Prepare plans, exhibits, cost estimates and specifications.
• Identify and apply or use standards and guidelines (AASHTO Green Book, MUTCD, HSM).
• Assist in analysis, preparation, or modification of reports, calculations, studies, permits, and designs.
• Attend client meetings and assist in client contact and communications.
• Field observations of roadway conditions and data collection.

Mead & Hunt is currently looking for a highly motivated individual to join our Transportation team as an Entry-Level Roadway Design Engineer in Columbia, MD; Herndon VA; Washington, DC.

Responsibilities Include

• Develop horizontal and vertical geometry and typical sections
• Roadway Design Modeling using Bentley Open Roads Designer or AutoCAD Civil 3D
• Prepare plans, exhibits, cost estimates and specifications
• Identify and apply or use the standards, guidelines and principals in the AASHTO Green Book, Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, Highway Safety Manual, and other local and national standards
• Assist in the analysis, preparation, or modification of reports, calculations, studies, permits, and designs for projects
• Attend client meetings and assist in client contact and communications
• Field observations of roadway conditions and data collection

A valid driver’s license and some travel will be required.

The Successful Candidate Will Have

• A bachelor’s degree (or higher) in civil engineering or relevant field from an accredited college or university.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have Any/all Of The Following

• MicroStation or AutoCAD
• EI or ability to obtain within 12 months
• Experience using MS-Word, Excel, Project

Salary Range: $68,000-$85,000 (annual) - Actual compensation may vary due to other factors such as: experience, skill set or location.
