Job summary

Railserve, part of Marmon Holdings, is hiring a Rail Switching Technician in Richmond, CA. This entry-level, full-time role trains you to safely operate locomotives, switch rails, and place railcars to support schedules. No rail experience required; training provided.

You will work outdoors in an industrial yard, wear PPE, and collaborate with a team to meet safety standards and customer needs. Opportunities for advancement exist with experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Reliable transportation.
• Strong attendance and dependability.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to walk on uneven terrain and climb on rail equipment.
• Ability to lift, carry, and handle heavy equipment and materials.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities safely and effectively.
• Strong attention to detail and situational awareness.
• Must pass physical, drug screen, and background check.
• Military experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Operate locomotives and rail equipment safely and efficiently.
• Perform railcar switching and placement according to schedules.
• Interpret train orders, signals, and operating procedures.
• Inspect locomotives prior to operation.
• Operate switches, derails, and gates.
• Coordinate movement using radios and hand signals.
• Couple and uncouple railcars and connect air hoses.
• Apply and release hand brakes to secure equipment.
• Observe tracks for hazards and obstructions.
• Complete reports on delays or incidents.
• Lubricate and inspect locomotive components.
• Wear personal protective equipment at all times.
• Follow safety procedures and customer requirements.
• Participate in training for new employees.
• Other duties as assigned.
