Job summary

Position: Entry Level R&D Engineer
Status: Full-Time, On-Site, Salary, Exempt

POSITION SUMMARY

The Entry Level R&D Engineer supports the design, analysis, testing, and development of helicopter systems and components. The position works alongside experienced engineers on projects involving airframe structures, dynamic components, avionics integration, propulsion systems, and other rotorcraft applications.

This position collaborates with Engineering, Certification, Manufacturing, Quality, and Flight Operations throughout the product lifecycle, including design, testing, certification, and production. Success requires strong engineering fundamentals, curiosity, clear communication, attention to detail, and the ability to learn within a hands-on aerospace environment.

BASIC WORKER FUNCTION

The Entry Level R&D Engineer applies engineering principles to support the safe and effective development of rotorcraft components and systems under the guidance of experienced engineering personnel.

The engineer assists with design work, analysis, technical documentation, test preparation and execution, data review, and the resolution of design or production issues. Work is coordinated with cross-functional teams and documented in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.

The position requires sound technical judgment, the ability to interpret engineering information, proficiency with applicable design or analysis tools, and a willingness to seek guidance when assignments extend beyond current experience.

Performance is measured by the accuracy and completeness of engineering work, timely communication, effective collaboration, and continued growth in technical capability and independent responsibility.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF TASKS

• Support the design and analysis of rotorcraft components, structures, mechanical systems, electrical systems, or integrated systems using applicable engineering tools.
• Create and revise models, drawings, calculations, reports, and other engineering documentation under appropriate technical review.
• Assist in preparing test plans and procedures for bench, rig, ground, and flight test activities.
• Support test setup and execution and evaluate data collected during engineering and flight test programs.
• Prepare and maintain technical documentation supporting FAA certification activities, including drawings, analysis reports, test records, and compliance documentation.
• Collaborate with Certification, Manufacturing, Quality, and other departments to investigate and resolve design and production issues.
• Support software and hardware verification activities in accordance with DO-178 and DO-254 when applicable to assigned work.
• Assist with environmental qualification activities in accordance with DO-160 when applicable to assigned components or systems.
• Participate in design reviews, root-cause investigations, and continuous improvement activities.
• Document engineering findings clearly and present results or recommendations to engineering leadership and project stakeholders.
• Maintain organized project records and complete assigned work in accordance with established priorities, schedules, and quality expectations.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering field.
• Entry-level candidates are encouraged to apply; relevant internship, co-op, academic project, or hands-on engineering experience is preferred.
• Experience in aerospace, aviation, manufacturing, research and development, or a related technical environment is preferred.
• Exposure to FAA regulations, airworthiness certification processes, or DO-160, DO-178, or DO-254 standards is preferred.
• Familiarity with rotorcraft dynamics, vibration analysis, flight test data reduction, prototyping, machining, or bench testing is preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Strong fundamentals in mechanics, dynamics, materials, electrical systems, or systems engineering relevant to assigned work.
• Working proficiency with CAD software such as CATIA, SolidWorks, or comparable tools and/or analytical tools such as MATLAB or Python.
• Ability to understand engineering drawings, specifications, technical data, and test information.
• Ability to gather and analyze data, identify relevant findings, and support technically sound conclusions.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document work clearly and accurately.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with technical and nontechnical team members across departments.
• Ability to manage multiple assignments, follow established priorities, and meet deadlines with appropriate guidance.
• Attention to detail and commitment to safety, quality, regulatory compliance, and continuous learning.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Work is performed primarily in an office and engineering environment with regular use of a computer, CAD or analytical software, and standard office equipment.
• The position requires prolonged periods of sitting, standing, typing, reviewing technical information, and communicating in person or electronically.
• The employee must be able to move through office, laboratory, test, production, and hangar areas and occasionally bend, reach, climb stairs, or work around aircraft and test equipment.
• The employee must occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull items weighing up to 25 pounds.
• The position may involve occasional exposure to manufacturing, hangar, laboratory, or flight-test environments and requires the use of appropriate personal protective equipment when applicable.
