Job summary

The City of Sacramento is seeking a Construction Inspector to observe workmanship and materials on public and private infrastructure projects to ensure conformance with laws, standards, plans, specifications, and departmental regulations.

The ideal candidate will have prior experience inspecting public infrastructure projects, be familiar with underground utility construction practices, and communicate clearly with contractors and property owners while working collaboratively in a team

Qualifications

• Two years of sub professional engineering experience or journey level public works/utility construction experience.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering plans and specifications.
• Effective written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Inspect materials and work product for conformance to contract documents.
• Observe progress and completion against city standards.
• Prepare documentation and reports per city procedures.
• Take samples for laboratory examination.
• Oversee field tests and understand testing procedures.
• Coordinate work with other City departments and utilities.
• Review schedules to ensure progress per contract.
• Assist with progress payment documentation.
• Prepare as-built plans for completed projects.
• Prepare necessary correspondence to contractors regarding contract requirements.
