Job summary

Washougal Police Department is seeking a dedicated police officer to patrol City of Washougal streets, respond to dispatcher calls, enforce laws, and investigate incidents. You will arrest and process offenders, prepare reports, and support neighboring jurisdictions as needed.

Candidates must complete a state certified academy, pass background checks, and maintain professionalism under pressure. A valid US driver’s license and continuous training are required for success.

Qualifications

• Ability to maintain self-discipline and credibility through honest and ethical behavior; strong communication, problem solving, and leadership skills.
• Understanding of federal, state, and local laws governing traffic, drug possession, and behavior.
• Knowledge of city geography and neighboring jurisdictions; basic computer skills for report writing.

Responsibilities

• Respond to complaints and calls for service in a calm, efficient and professional manner.
• Respond to vehicle accidents and other medical emergency calls; administer first aid to sick or injured individuals as needed.
• Intervene in potentially dangerous or hostile situations; patrol city streets and respond to calls safely.
• Enforce federal, state, and local laws; issue warnings and citations.
• Prepare and submit routine and special reports; testify in court as necessary.
• Assist neighboring jurisdictions when requested; coordinate with other agencies.
• Provide security at city functions and traffic control during large events.
