Prince George’s County Police Department is now accepting applications for entry-level Police Officers. The program emphasizes integrity, sound judgment, and community-oriented policing to positively impact residents' lives.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens, meet age and licensing requirements, and pass a multi-stage background selection process with NTN administered testing and eligibility list placement.

Qualifications

• US citizenship required
• High school graduate; 60+ college credit hours preferred
• 21 years old at graduation from the Police Academy; 20 years 3 months old at time of application
• Possess a valid driver's license and at least 6 months driving experience
• Successfully complete all requirements of the Background and Selection Process

Responsibilities

• Enforce local, state, and federal laws to protect life and property
• Patrol assigned areas to deter crime and ensure public safety
• Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for service
• Investigate crimes by collecting evidence and interviewing victims and witnesses
• Prepare accurate reports and maintain detailed records
• Make arrests and issue citations when appropriate
• Enforce traffic laws and respond to traffic accidents
• Provide assistance and support to individuals in crisis situations
• Engage with the community to build trust and promote crime prevention
• Testify in court and work with prosecutors and other justice partners
• Uphold departmental policies, ethical standards, and professional conduct
