City of Thomasville is seeking a Planning Technician to support planning, zoning, historic preservation, and development review. You will process development applications, research property information, and respond to customer inquiries under the supervision of the City Planner.

This entry‑level paraprofessional role provides opportunities for growth as you assist with routine zoning and development tasks and gain experience with GIS, regulations, and planning procedures in a municipal setting.

Formación

• General knowledge of planning and zoning principles.
• Ability to read and interpret zoning maps, site plans, surveys, and related documents.
• Ability to apply ordinances and regulations to routine applications.
• Ability to conduct property and planning research using GIS and public records.
• Familiarity with GIS and standard office software; CAD is desirable.

Responsabilidades

• Assist with intake, processing, and review of zoning, development, permitting, and historic preservation applications.
• Provide administrative and logistical support for meetings and notifications.
• Answer routine questions from applicants, owners, contractors, and the public.
• Review applications for completeness and compliance with zoning standards.
• Assist with site plans and permit review for compliance with development regulations.
• Assist with Historic Preservation Commission applications under staff direction.
• Conduct zoning and property research using GIS, tax records, and ordinances.
• Identify applicable districts and development requirements for properties.
• Communicate requirements and deficiencies to applicants under supervision.
• Attend evening meetings as required.
