Michael Baker International, Inc. is seeking a Planner I to join our Planning Practice in the Greater Los Angeles area with a part-time schedule in Long Beach, CA.

This entry-level role provides hands-on experience in municipal planning, front counter operations, and land use entitlements under supervision. Your responsibilities include assisting with zoning information, permit processing, public outreach, and preparing staff reports.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, City Planning, Urban Studies, Geography, or a related field.
• Minimum of 1 year of relevant planning experience.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide zoning, land use, and planning information to the public, developers, and stakeholders.
• Support day-to-day operations of public agency permit centers.
• Conduct site visits and gather information required to process planning applications.
• Review development proposals for compliance with General Plans, Zoning Ordinances, Specific Plans, design guidelines, and development standards.
• Process minor land use entitlements and administrative permits (CUPs, ADUs, sign permits, plan checks).
• Assist in preparing staff reports for Planning Commission and City Council meetings.
• Support the preparation of resolutions, ordinances, and CEQA documentation.
• Coordinate public noticing requirements and distribute project documents to outside agencies and stakeholders.
• Assist with scheduling and facilitating public workshops, hearings, and EIR scoping meetings.
• Prepare and file notices with State Clearinghouse and County Clerk offices.
• Maintain municipal codes and ordinance amendments; provide additional planning support.
