Job summary

VHB’s South Portland, Maine office is seeking a Transportation Planner to contribute to transportation planning studies and public involvement materials. The role offers exposure to diverse projects across disciplines within a collaborative team environment.

The candidate should have 0-1 years of related experience and a Bachelor’s degree in planning or related field, with ArcGIS experience considered a plus. Hybrid work options and a comprehensive benefits package are available.

ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB’s South Portland, Maine office is looking for a talented Transportation Planner to join us! This is an exciting opportunity to work within a dynamic team, across diverse disciplines, giving you exposure to a wide variety of projects in size and scope.


Responsibilities


  • Assist in development of transportation planning studies for a multitude of transportation projects

  • Assist with development of support materials for public involvement activities

  • Support with authorship of project-related documentation for a range of transportation planning studies and demographic analyses

  • Prepare written documents, summarize information collected by others, and assemble reports

  • Conduct planning assessments using analytical tools such as GIS to evaluate data, identify trends, and develop documentation to summarize results

  • Perform field data collection and other on-site project support activities

  • Assist in safety studies


Skills And Attributes


  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite, especially experience with Word.

  • Attention to detail

  • Ability to independently perform multiple tasks and interact appropriately and positively with coworkers

  • Team oriented with strong capability to work independently.


Qualifications


  • 0-1 years of related professional experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in planning, civil engineering, or related field

  • Experience with Esri ArcGIS Desktop software, ArcGIS Pro, and ArcGIS Online a plus

  • Experience in Shapefile (SHP) and File GeoDatabase (DBF) file formats a plus


The full-time annual base salary range for this position, located in Maine, is $64,000 to $66,000. The base salary offered will be determined based on job-related factors, including geographic location, internal equity, experience, credentials, skills, education, work schedule, and other factors permitted by law. The posted salary range reflects base pay only. Additional compensation and benefits available to eligible employees are outlined in our Total Rewards Program.


Annual base salary is one component of VHB’s Total Rewards package. In addition to base pay, eligible employees may receive annual incentive compensation bonuses, spot bonuses, and merit-based salary increases, providing opportunities to increase earnings beyond base pay.
