Job summary

Kim Intellectual Property Law Group is seeking an Entry-Level Patent Attorney with a Mechanical Engineering background to join our New Jersey office. You will work closely with senior attorneys on patent preparation and prosecution across diverse technologies.

This full-time role offers hands-on training, exposure to U.S. and international portfolios, and opportunities to grow into more responsible client matters. NJ Bar eligibility and USPTO bar are desired early steps.

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school.
• Bachelor's or advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• Admission to the USPTO Patent Bar or eligibility to obtain registration.
• Admission to the New Jersey Bar or willingness to obtain admission.
• Strong academic credentials.
• Excellent analytical, technical writing, and communication skills.
• Ability to understand and explain complex technologies.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively while taking ownership of assigned matters.
• Prior engineering or relevant technical experience is a plus; patent prosecution experience is not required.

Responsibilities

• Preparing and prosecuting U.S. patent applications;
• Assisting with international patent prosecution and global patent portfolios;
• Reviewing invention disclosures and conducting inventor interviews;
• Conducting patentability and prior-art analyses;
• Assisting with freedom-to-operate, clearance, and other patent-related analyses;
• Developing patent prosecution strategies;
• Communicating with clients, inventors, and foreign counsel;
• Gaining increasing responsibility for client matters as experience and skills develop.
