Entry Level Packaging Systems Design Engineer

Job Summary

Packaging Engineers work closely with process, controls, and building system engineers to scope, layout, install, and commission packaging equipment lines for food and beverage industry clients. Dennis Group is a design-build engineering firm and general contractor specializing in food and beverage processing facilities. Responsibilities include defining project requirements, estimating costs, creating flow diagrams, providing onsite support, and overseeing start-up and commissioning of packaging equipment.

Responsibilities
  • Develop design concepts, estimates, and specifications for packaging lines.
  • Interpret mechanical design requirements and customer specifications.
  • Specify, purchase, install, and commission packaging equipment.
  • Coordinate and manage onsite construction projects.
  • Design machines and processes, prepare testing requirements, and create equipment layouts.
  • Survey existing conditions and create flow diagrams, material balances, and packaging matrices.
  • Assist with bid packages and understand control/electrical panel placement.
  • Develop design basis documents, scopes of work, and basis of design documentation.
  • Support manufacturing and packaging design principles, including conveyance, wrapping, bagging, cartoning, filling, bottling, case packing, and palletizing.
  • Assist in process simulation and provide construction site support.
  • Observe construction compliance and assist in sanitary and warehouse layout design.
  • Develop AutoCAD equipment layouts.
  • Minimum 0-3 years of experience or schooling in machine testing, manufacturing, and packaging principles.
Required Education, Skills, and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, packaging, industrial, or manufacturing engineering.
  • 0-3 years of experience or schooling in scope, layout, install, and commissioning of packaging lines.
  • Experience in professional services, packaging, or food and beverage sectors is a plus.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, MS Project, and AutoCAD.
  • Excellent communication skills and a team-oriented attitude.
  • Strong problem-solving, organization, and time management skills.
  • Travel requirement: 30-50% for site visits and project coordination.
Physical and Travel Requirements
  • Prolonged sitting and working on a computer; ability to lift up to 15 pounds.
  • Up to 50% travel to project sites and offices.
