Job summary

City and County of Denver seeks an Entry Level Assistant City Attorney for the Prosecution and Code Enforcement (PACE) Section. Prosecutes municipal crimes and traffic offenses, collaborates with paralegals and victim advocates, and advises city agencies.

Must hold a Colorado law license by hire date or have a reasonable expectation to obtain one. Position based in Denver with standard 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM hours, some longer days may be required.

Qualifications

• Experience handling criminal matters
• Experience in all phases of criminal litigation
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• History of success in fast-paced criminal litigation
• Experience with domestic violence cases or victims
• Willingness to work in a paperless environment
• Commitment to collaborative teamwork

Responsibilities

• Under direction of a supervisor, evaluate and prepare cases for all stages of criminal prosecution
• Work collaboratively with paralegals and victim advocates to ensure proper preparation
• Draft motions and respond to motions in a timely manner
• Draft and respond to appeals
• Provide City agencies with legal advice
• Represent City agencies during administrative hearings
• Draft proposed ordinances
