Job summary

Plug Power Inc. in Rochester invites a recent mechanical engineering graduate or early-career engineer to join our lab-focused team.

You will support ELX and PEM stack programs, perform teardown, operate test stands from 1 kW to 1 MW, and help stand up new lab capabilities. The role emphasizes CAD modeling (Creo), DFMEA, root cause analysis, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration with manufacturing, quality, and analytics.

Qualifications

• BS degree in Mechanical Engineering (required).
• 0–2 years of relevant experience; co-ops, internships, senior design projects, or academic lab work involving fuel cells or electrochemical testing are a strong plus.
• Exposure to PEM fuel cell or electrolyzer stack hardware, testing, or teardown/failure analysis is desirable but not required.
• Basic familiarity with 3D CAD modeling and drawings (Creo/Windchill a plus).
• Interest in or exposure to DFMEA, GD&T, and QA methodologies.

Responsibilities

• Support ELX and FC stack failure-analysis activities, including teardown, inspection, and root-cause investigation.
• Operate and troubleshoot 1 kW to 1 MW PEM test stands and data acquisition systems.
• Set up and execute standard and non-standard test procedures for PEM FC and ELX components.
• Develop new lab capabilities and teardown/test protocols with the team.
• Record, organize, and analyze test data; prepare reports and presentations.
