Consultant (Mechanical Engineer)

Founded in 1967, Applied Technical Services, Inc. has established a reputation for success in Metallurgy and Materials Testing, Chemical Analysis, Non-destructive Testing, Forensic and Consulting Engineering, Fire and Explosion Investigations, and Calibration Services. We are currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer to work as a consultant in the field of mechanical integrity.

Job Responsibilities

The consultant will primarily perform inspections and evaluations of industrial equipment such as power generation facilities, chemical plants, and paper mills. Key responsibilities include:

  • Perform field inspections of industrial equipment (storage tanks, pressure vessels, piping systems, rotating equipment).
  • Generate calculations in accordance with API, ASME, and other standards.
  • Prepare written reports and develop ACAD drawings.
  • Manage projects ranging from $60,000 to $100,000.
  • Manage field technicians and client relationships.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or Materials Engineering.
  • Entry-level to 5 years of experience in tank, vessel, and piping integrity assessment, design, or MI program management.
  • Hands-on experience of any kind.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Dependable, team-oriented, with a positive attitude.
  • Familiarity with standard construction codes and processes.
  • Willing to travel up to 50%.
  • Proficient in MS Office.
  • Ability and willingness to meet physical demands such as climbing ladders and scaffolds, working in confined spaces, and outdoors in industrial environments.

Note: This position requires access to information subject to U.S. export controls under ITAR. Only U.S. Persons are eligible.

Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Certifications such as API-510, API-653, API-570, STI, CWI.
  • Over 2 years of experience in Mechanical Integrity, Equipment Reliability, or Non-destructive Testing applications.
  • Professional Engineer License or EIT.
  • Knowledge in Compressors and AutoCAD.
  • Prior military experience.
Additional Requirements
  • Willing to work holidays and travel domestically and internationally, up to 25%.
