Job summary

The City of Columbia SC is seeking a maintenance worker to perform semi-skilled and unskilled tasks in support of the assigned division or department. work is performed under close supervision and follows set procedures.

Essential duties include driving trucks, performing routine maintenance, assisting with repairs, and adhering to safety policies. A high school diploma or GED and a SC Class D license are required, with no prior experience preferred. Some overtime may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• No prior experience.
• Valid South Carolina Class D Driver’s License.
• May be required to work additional hours, weekends and holidays, on a rotating basis.

Responsibilities

• Performs semi-skilled and unskilled maintenance work to support the operations of assigned division or department;
• Performs general manual labor tasks as required;
• Assists in maintaining assigned trucks and equipment; performs cleaning, preventive maintenance and simple repair work as required;
• Drives and operates trucks and other vehicles; operates various hand and power tools as necessary to accomplish tasks;
• Installs, tests and repairs service lines;
• Performs duties in accordance with all department policies, procedures, and standards of quality and safety;
• Assists co-workers with various duties as required;
• Attends training, meetings, etc., as necessary to enhance job knowledge and skills; and
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
