Job summary

Kent Companies in Michigan is seeking a construction laborer to perform physical labor on building and heavy construction projects, using hand and power tools and following directions from foremen.

The role requires PPE use, safety awareness, ability to lift 80 pounds, and willingness to travel to shop and job sites. It is a full‑time position with 45–50 hours per week and includes weekly pay and benefits.

Qualifications

  • Ability to pass drug screening.
  • Reliable transportation to the workplace(s).
  • Personal gear such as steel‑toe boots and hand tools such as a box cutter.
  • No formal experience or education required.

Responsibilities

  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including hard hat and high‑visibility apparel.
  • Safely perform general labor tasks on commercial construction sites.
  • Install and maintain fall protection, barricades, and other safety systems.
  • Locate materials, supplies, equipment, and tools onsite and use them as directed to meet production and quality goals.
  • Walk and work on uneven surfaces and climb ladders, scaffolds, and shoring on a frequent basis.
  • Properly maintain all equipment and tools so that they are safe and reliable.
  • Work in a kneeling, crouching, or bent‑over position frequently.
  • Work in variable indoor and outdoor environments, including inclement weather.
  • Lifting and breaking 80‑lb bags into a hopper.
  • Install sound mat materials.
  • Pull material hoses on job sites and place cementitious materials with hoses.
  • Communicate effectively with crew lead, foreman, and superintendent on safety, ask questions, and problem‑solve.

Job description

Summary

The laborer performs physical labor tasks on building, residential, and heavy construction projects. Tasks include operating hand and power tools such as air hammers, concrete vibrators, small mechanical hoists, surveying and measuring equipment, floor grinders, and other instruments. The laborer cleans and prepares sites, places bulkheads, pours, levels, and finishes underlayment, uses teamwork to meet daily goals, and completes timesheets under the direction of a foreman or superintendent.

Required Experience, Education, and Qualifications
  • Ability to pass drug screening.
  • Reliable transportation to the workplace(s).
  • Personal gear such as steel‑toe boots and hand tools such as a box cutter.
  • No formal experience or education required.
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Experience in construction fields (concrete, gypsum, underlayments, waterproofing) is a plus.
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
  • Successful background check related to driving.
Work Environment / Physical Demands

Typical construction site environment; requires long periods of standing and lifting 80 pounds.

Position Type and Working Hours

Full‑time field position. Typical hours 45‑50 per week, with non‑typical days and irregular hours based on construction schedules.

Travel

Requires travel to the company shop and commute to job sites with other employees.
