Job summary

Kent Companies, Inc. is seeking a qualified concrete finisher to perform all phases of concrete finishing on commercial pours at job sites in Fort Mill, SC.

You will grade, set up formwork, place concrete, and finish slabs with hand tools and machines, while maintaining safety and quality and communicating with the crew lead and supervisors. The ideal candidate has 2-4+ years of finishing experience, PPE knowledge, and a valid driver’s license; OSHA 10/30 are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Pour, level, and finish freshly placed concrete.
  • Understand and achieve specified finishes, with attention to detail and quality.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including a hard hat, high-visibility apparel, and additional protection as required by the task.
  • Communicate effectively with your crew lead, foreman, and superintendent on safety, quality specifications, and problem-solving.
  • Safely perform labor tasks on concrete construction sites, including using power and standard hand tools.
  • Utilize measurement and carpentry skills to build custom formwork.
  • Moving materials by hand, preparing for concrete placement, installation of shoring, and maintaining clean, well-organized job sites.
  • Setting and placing forms, building and dismantling formwork, erecting and dismantling shoring, and placing concrete into forms.
  • Utilize elevation specifications to accurately set up a laser leveling system and establish grade and grade lines.
  • Uses and monitors quality and production of straight edge and “magic screed” to level/shape freshly poured concrete.
  • Finishes slab edges using hand tools.
  • Assists with truck chute and pump hose to place fresh concrete.
  • Operates forklifts (with certification) to convey concrete finishing equipment between trucks, floor slabs, and decks during and after the concrete finishing process.
  • Operates light and advanced equipment (e.g., truss-type hardener spreader, truss screeds, bull floats, lifting equipment, etc.) to level and treat concrete slab surfaces.
  • Operates at advanced level trowel machinery and equipment in the concrete finishing process.
  • Cleans and properly maintains all hand and power tools used to place and finish fresh concrete.

Job description

Summary

The experienced finisher is expected to perform all parts of the process: grading, set up, custom formwork, concrete placement, cleaning tools, stripping formwork, and cutting slabs. An experienced finisher has noteworthy flatwork experience and demonstrates the ability to finish virtually any commercial concrete pour. Understanding the many variables affecting the finishing process is critical to success. An experienced finisher can effectively use all hand tools, including various finish trowels, floats, and brooms or rakes, to achieve a specified finish. Understanding and proficiently using specialized machines to expedite the finishing process is critical to this role. Communicating effectively with supervisors, teammates, and other trades is expected, as well as providing training and development to teammates who demonstrate motivation and interest in advancing their skills.

  • Layout Ability – Understand how to read and interpret construction drawings and use such information to install bulkheads, embedded items, and box-outs correctly.

Work Environment/Physical Demand
  • Ability to lift 80 lbs.
  • Work in a variable environment, including, but not limited to, high/low temperatures, areas close to traffic, loud and frequent noises, confined spaces, heights, and indoor/outdoor settings.
  • This position often requires climbing, kneeling, bending, and crawling and the ability to work on ladders, platforms, and mechanical lifts.
Position type and expected hours of work

This is a full-time field position. Typical hours will range from 45-50 hours per week and are subject to change. This role requires working nontypical days and irregular hours based on construction schedules.

Travel

This position reports directly to each job site and requires personal transportation.
