Job summary

4 LZB Retail, Inc. is seeking an Entry-Level Interior Design Associate to help customers bring their design ideas to life in our Downers Grove showroom. This role combines customer service with basic design support and learning opportunities in the furniture and home furnishings industry.

You will assist with room layouts, product selections, and design suggestions while growing product knowledge and selling skills. Strong communication and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous selling experience and ability to close a sale strongly preferred.
  • Excellent communication, customer service and organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build rapport and influence.
  • Demonstrated persuasion and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to manage time and conflicting priorities.
  • Teamwork orientation.
  • Willingness to work evenings, weekends and holidays as required.
  • Strong attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Assist customers in selecting furniture, décor, and accessories for their homes.
  • Create room layouts and design suggestions based on customer needs and lifestyles.
  • Stay up-to-date on furniture trends, fabrics, colors, and design styles.
  • Work closely with the sales team to provide exceptional customer experiences.
  • Support special design projects and in-store events.
  • Contribute to store sales goals by selling furniture, accessories and services offered.
  • Promote the Design program and assist the designer to achieve sales goals.
  • Execute and champion the Design process following company guidelines.
  • Provide high level customer service, using good knowledge of products and company selling process.
  • Assist in handling customer issues and complaints, providing solutions.
  • Support teammates, train, coach new peers on product knowledge and selling process.
  • Maintain visual appearance of store, including displays, tagging, catalog, fabrics, floor moves, cleanliness.
  • Accurately complete order information, deposits, fees, records, payments, deliveries.
  • Schedule deliveries and manage On‑Point system logs.
  • Open and close store as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with design software (not required).
  • Design, retail or customer service experience helpful.
Compensation & Benefits

Training Pay: $16 per hour for 2‑6 weeks (no commission). Base Pay after training: $13 per hour + uncapped commissions on sales (3% on Design sales, 2% on other sales) and quarterly bonus opportunity of $1,500 based on meeting sales goals. Weekly hours: 40. Estimated annual earning after training: $45,000 – $65,000+ (basis includes base, bonus, commission).

Physical Demands

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand for long periods, frequent hand motions, hearing and listening, sit, walk, bend and stoop. Must pass background and drug screen.
