Job summary

Schnabel Engineering, Sterling, VA, seeks an Entry-Level (Staff) Engineer to join our growing geotechnical team. Develop field and analytical skills, grow as a professional, and contribute to a strong team in a collaborative environment.

Ideal candidate has 0–2 years of experience, a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or geology, and strong communication skills with a positive, proactive attitude. Field work and travel are required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Geology or related field required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
  • Positive attitude and ability to multi-task required.
  • Strong work ethic and desire for continual self-improvement.
  • Willingness and ability to perform field work and travel, including assignments away from the office.
  • Able to lift 50 pounds and negotiate construction sites and ladders.

Responsibilities

  • Use GIS and GPS to aid in planning and executing geotechnical field work.
  • Log test borings.
  • Oversight of subcontractors including drillers and traffic control.
  • Create basic plans and figures using AutoCAD and GIS.
  • Assign and review laboratory tests.
  • Perform calculations to support geotechnical designs.
  • Support preparation of geotechnical reports and proposals.
  • Observe geotechnical-related construction and perform materials testing.
  • Plan and coordinate geotechnical and materials testing field work.
  • Prepare field reports.
  • Review geotechnical and materials testing reports.
