Job summary

Software Placement Group is seeking a Fabric Assistant in New York, NY to support the fabric development and production team. This entry‑level role offers hands‑on experience across sourcing, development, quality, and production in a fast‑moving textiles environment.

You will assist with supplier communications, maintain fabric samples, and help prepare charts and documentation for development and production.

Qualifications

• 0–2 years of experience in textiles or a related field.
• Strong interest in textiles and a willingness to learn about fabric sourcing, development, and production
• Highly organized and detail‑oriented, with strong follow‑up and time management skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment
• Comfortable communicating with mills, factories, and internal teams
• Proactive, dependable, and eager to learn

Responsibilities

• Assist with fabric sourcing, development, and follow‑up with suppliers
• Maintain and organize fabric samples, production samples, and related records
• Prepare and maintain fabric charts for both development and production
• Collect and upload FDS and other required documentation, including test reports and sustainability certificates
• Assist with creating and placing purchase orders for proto and sample yardage
• Communicate daily with mills and factories to monitor sample yardage status and deliveries
• Track fabric submissions, approvals, and production status
• Follow up on outstanding sample requests, approvals, and production‑related issues
• Assist with purchase orders, shipping information, invoices, and other fabric‑related documentation
• Assist with reviewing fabric quality and color and providing comments to suppliers
• Perform general administrative tasks as needed
