Job summary

The City of La Porte is seeking an entry‑level Equipment Operator to drive and maintain streets, sidewalks, curbs, gutters, and storm drains. You will work under supervision performing a mix of semi‑skilled and skilled tasks using a limited range of light equipment.

Requirements include a Texas Driver's License and the ability to obtain a Texas Class B CDL within three months. High school diploma or GED is preferred. Equal opportunity employer.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of street and utility construction materials, tools and equipment.
• Ability to perform semi-skilled and skilled tasks in construction and maintenance.
• Adherence to safety precautions in hazardous environments.

Responsibilities

• Drive and operate light to moderate construction equipment on routine assignments.
• Repair and patch streets by hand-sweeping surfaces and loading asphalt.
• Work with a small crew to complete work orders.
• Operate tractors and mowers for drainage maintenance.
• Participate in concrete work such as curb, gutter, and sidewalk repair.
• Inspect drainage areas and shoulders for weed removal and herbicide application.
• Operate trucks and equipment for larvacide and insecticide applications.
• Perform storm drain maintenance and related duties.
