Job summary

APTIM is seeking a junior Environmental Scientist to support our stormwater compliance program in the Atlanta, GA area. The role may include other environmental compliance tasks across solid waste, hazardous materials, hazardous waste, aboveground storage tanks, spill prevention, DOT and RCRA compliance, site assessment and data management.

Travel to client facilities for inspections and data collection is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a core science (geology, chemistry, physics, biology), engineering, environmental science, or related area.
• 1-2 years of related work experience or entry level with relevant degree.
• Travel and flexibility in working hours to accommodate stormwater sampling requirements.
• Able to work independently in the field and in all weather conditions.
• Overtime and weekend work may be required to meet project sampling requirements.
• Detail oriented with strong written and oral communication skills.
• Strong computer skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, and SharePoint Online.
• Experience in stormwater compliance inspection/sampling desirable.
• Stormwater certification and/or asbestos certification a plus.
• Current Valid Driver’s License.
• Basic computer skills for digital data collection (e.g., autobuild, PlanGrid, equis collect).
• Preferred: QSP and/or QiSP certifications (CPISM, CPSWQ, NSTC, STC).
• Experience reviewing federal/state/local regulations is a plus.
• 40-hour OSHA-HAZWOPER training.

Responsibilities

• Collect environmental samples in the field and prepare samples for lab analysis.
• Calibrate and use technical instruments.
• Review permit and planning documents (NPDES, MSGP, SWPPP, SPCC) for site requirements.
• Plan, organize, and schedule field activities across sites.
• Travel to client facilities and coordinate with client for site access.
• Work in varied field conditions and during rain events; possible overtime and weekends.
• Observe safety protocols and wear PPE.
• Develop and maintain records manually or digitally.
• Perform field inspections and document results and compliance with permits.
• Provide recommendations for improvements.
• Execute work scopes while meeting schedules and budgets.
• Work independently or in project teams and communicate with managers.
