Job summary

The Environmental Health Inspector I is an entry-level position with the Division of Public Health Practice – Environmental Health - Retail Food. It supports inspection, monitoring, and enforcement of environmental health standards in various settings under supervision.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental health, public health, biology, or a related field.
• Satisfaction of the minimum qualifications is at the discretion of the department and the Office of Personnel Management.

Responsibilities

• Assist in conducting routine inspections of food establishments, water systems, sanitation facilities, and other public health environments to ensure compliance with health regulations.
• Identify and report health and safety violations to senior inspectors, making recommendations for corrective actions.
• Collect and analyze samples of food, water, and other materials for testing purposes.
• Assist in preparing inspection reports, documenting violations, and tracking corrective actions taken.
• Participate in public health outreach and educational efforts by providing basic information on environmental health practices to the public and businesses.
• Respond to public inquiries and complaints regarding environmental health concerns.
