Job description

Job Title: Entry Level Electrical Test Engineer
Job Description

The Entry Level Electrical Test Engineer applies core engineering principles and analytical tools to develop and execute test plans and procedures for electrical parts and components. This role focuses on evaluating design feasibility, validating that components meet performance targets, and ensuring compliance with internal and regulatory standards. The engineer prepares and configures test equipment, conducts moderately complex tests, analyzes and interprets results, and clearly communicates findings to support product and design improvements.

Responsibilities
  • Apply engineering principles and relevant experience to develop detailed test plans and procedures for electrical parts and components in the assigned specialty area.

  • Create test specifications, standards, and data settings to ensure accurate and repeatable testing of design components.

  • Prepare and set up test equipment, including hardware and measurement instruments, to conduct planned tests safely and effectively.

  • Execute moderately complex hardware and software tests to determine design feasibility and verify that parts and components meet acceptance criteria and performance targets.

  • Use analysis tools and test equipment such as oscilloscopes to capture, measure, and validate electrical performance characteristics.

  • Document and summarize test results and conclusions in a clear and organized manner, ensuring testing accuracy and completeness.

  • Analyze and interpret test data to predict product performance and potential failure modes, and provide actionable feedback to design and product teams.

  • Identify issues, anomalies, and non-conformances discovered during testing, and develop appropriate countermeasures or corrective actions.

  • Propose design changes and recommend improvements based on test results, engineering analysis, and performance trends.

  • Determine when additional or follow-up testing is required to fully validate design performance or confirm the effectiveness of countermeasures.

  • Communicate test outcomes, methods, and recommendations through written reports and formal presentations to project stakeholders.

Essential Skills
  • Foundational knowledge of electrical engineering principles and their application to testing and validation of electronic components and systems.

  • Hands-on experience or academic exposure to hardware testing in an electrical or electronics environment.

  • Ability to perform software-related testing tasks associated with electrical or electronic systems.

  • Experience using test equipment such as oscilloscopes to measure and analyze electrical signals and performance.

  • Strong analytical skills to interpret test data, predict performance or failure, and draw clear conclusions.

  • Ability to develop and follow structured test plans, procedures, and schedules.

  • Proficiency in documenting test methods, results, and conclusions in a clear and concise format.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills to present test results and recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline; in lieu of a degree, approximately 6 years of related experience may be considered.

  • Previous test engineering experience, ideally including up to 5 or more years in test and confirmation activities within a relevant specialty area, is beneficial.

  • Experience in automotive testing or exposure to automotive systems and standards is highly desirable.

  • Hardware and electrical engineering design or validation environments.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional engineering teams to resolve design and performance issues.

  • Strong problem-solving mindset with the ability to identify root causes and propose practical countermeasures.

Work Environment

The work environment centers on a technical engineering and laboratory setting focused on testing electrical and electronic components. The role involves regular hands-on work with test hardware, electrical test benches, and measurement equipment such as oscilloscopes and related instruments. The engineer typically follows structured test schedules and project timelines, coordinating activities with other engineers and project stakeholders. Work may alternate between time in the lab conducting tests and time in an office environment analyzing data, preparing reports, and creating presentations.
