Job summary

The State of Maryland, Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services, is seeking a Correctional Maintenance Officer I Electrical to perform installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems in a correctional environment. This entry‑level role emphasizes safety, custody, and supervision of inmates during tasks.

You will plan, assign, and inspect work, supervise incarcerated workers, order materials, and ensure quality standards while coordinating with security and maintenance

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent as described by Maryland standards.
• Two years of electrical experience.

Responsibilities

• Supervise incarcerated workers and enforce safety, custody and security rules.
• Assign tasks to incarcerated workers with varying proficiency in the trade.
• Train incarcerated individuals on methods, tools, and care of equipment.
• Inspect and approve work for quality standards.
• Estimate time, materials and supplies for tasks.
• Order materials and maintain records of inventory.
• Perform installation, maintenance or repair tasks on electrical infrastructure.
• Plan and implement procedures.
• Operate hand and power tools and escort third party vendors.
