Job summary

University of California, Davis is seeking an entry-level Lab Assistant to join the sample receiving/prep group. You will enter client data, perform DNA isolation from hair roots, buccal swabs, tissue, semen and blood, and prepare samples for lineage testing, coat color and disease diagnostics.

This role involves accurate documentation and handling of frozen DNA and samples in a busy veterinary genetics lab. Primary duties include reagent prep, cleaning, and maintenance of DNA extraction robots.

Qualifications

• Ability to organize and transfer many small items such as samples accurately.
• Meticulous, detail oriented, and able to maintain focus in a busy lab.
• Learn detailed procedures quickly and follow protocols with minimal supervision.
• Operate equipment and computer terminals effectively.
• Proficient with basic lab tools and techniques used for DNA work.
