Job summary

Kiewit is seeking an entry-level Data Engineer to join our Data Platform team in La Vista, NE. You will help build, test, and maintain pipelines and infrastructure moving data into analytics-ready tables, mentored by experienced engineers as you grow into production ownership.

This role is ideal for a recent graduate with strong SQL, Python, and data modeling fundamentals who is curious, detail-oriented, and comfortable asking questions in ambiguous situations.

Qualifications

• 0-3 years of relevant experience in data, analytics, or software
• Internship or project coursework with data, analytics, and stakeholders
• Degree in CS/CS & Engineering, Data Science or similar
• SQL proficiency: joins, aggregations, normalization
• Python w/ pandas and basic OOP
• Git/GitHub in class project or personal repo
• ETL/ELT and batch vs streaming concepts
• Command line and cloud/dev environment familiarity
• Strong written communication for documentation

Responsibilities

• Write and maintain SQL transformations and Python scripts for data ingestion and transformation workflows
• Assist in building and testing ETL/ELT pipelines under guidance of senior engineers
• Contribute to code reviews, documentation, and testing to keep data trustworthy
• Collaborate with analysts, data architects and stakeholders to define data requirements
• Learn and apply our data stack (cloud lake house, orchestration, tooling)
• Surface blockers, ask questions, and propose solutions as part of a team
