$66,728.00/yr - $96,020.00/yr

Position overview

The USPS OIG is seeking a highly qualified applicant to fill our Entry Level Criminal Investigator vacancy within the Office of Investigation, Northeast Area Field Office (NEAFO), in Brooklyn, NY.

The successful candidate must demonstrate potential to conduct federal criminal, civil, and administrative investigations.

Responsibilities
  • This is a trainee level position in criminal investigation. Work assignments are designed to provide training in investigative methods and analytical evaluation.
  • The training emphasizes understanding the concepts underlying the investigative work, recognizing issues early, and analyzing and solving problems.
  • Assignments combine productive work with supervised on-the-job training, observing senior agents.
  • Up to 50% travel may be required.

Minimum qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Potential to conduct federal investigations.
  • Latest performance appraisal (FY 2024) with a satisfactory rating or a written statement explaining its absence.
Additional requirements
  • Complete the 12-week Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) Criminal Investigator Training Program (CITP).
  • Maintain eligibility to operate motor vehicles.
  • Be at least 21 and under 37 at initial appointment.
  • Qualify to carry firearms, with no domestic violence convictions.
  • Meet physical, mental, and emotional standards for law enforcement work.
  • Work unscheduled hours, including holidays, weekends, nights, with extra Law Enforcement Availability Pay (LEAP).
  • Willing to relocate as needed.
Compensation details

The USPS OIG uses a Pay Banding system similar to the Federal GS scale, with salary based on education and experience.

This position is at the Journey Band (GS 7-9) level, with a salary range of $66,728 - $96,020, including locality pay.

LEAP is authorized and will be payable after successful completion of training.
