Job summary

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident with ability to read, write, and speak English.
• Minimum age 18 at time of appointment.
• Must hold or obtain Washington State driver's license.
• Background investigation including drug screen, polygraph, psychological and physical evaluation.
• Must meet Washington Criminal Justice Training Commission physical standards.

Responsibilities

• Receives, books, fingerprints, and photographs incoming prisoners.
• Maintains jail security through observation, searches, and orderly conduct.
• Ensures inmates have access to basic needs for hygiene and welfare.
• Transfers prisoners to and from jail, court, doctors, or other locations; releases as required.
• Logs court dispositions, writes reports, and maintains files.
• Screens and processes visitors; handles inmate property.
• Assigns work to trustees and oversees meal distribution to inmates.
• Notifies supervisors if medical attention is needed and ensures inmate safety.
• Monitors surveillance and other department equipment; answers department phones.
• Attends training and shift meetings; responds to disturbances or emergencies.
• Prepares reports, memos, and unit rosters; performs related work.
