Job summary

Intertek in La Porte, Texas seeks a Construction Materials Testing Field Technician I to join our PSI team. You will perform testing, site observations, and assist in data reporting under supervision in the A/E/C industry.

The role requires outdoor work, hands-on lab or field experience, and valid credentials (TWIC and driver’s license). Training is provided, with opportunities to grow into advanced CST roles.

Qualifications

• Experience performing hands-on outdoor testing and site observations.
• Construction industry experience or related field.
• Must possess or be able to obtain TWIC card before hire.

Responsibilities

• Operate testing equipment and conduct testing (soil, concrete, etc.) and report data.
• Interpret drawings, specifications, and diagrams as required.
• Perform site observations with detailed note-taking and limited interpretation of results.
• Maintain detailed documentation and data from test results.

The Construction Materials Testing Field Technician (I) is responsible for performing a variety of testing, project specific observations and site assessment duties under general supervision and/or detailed controlled procedures.

What you’ll do:

• Operate testing equipment and conduct testing (example: Soil, concrete or other) and provide assessment of data through reporting
• Utilize drawings, specifications, and diagrams
• Use specific methods and perform tasks to make detailed observations of site activities and give limited interpretation of results
• Maintain detailed documentation and data from test results

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:

• Experience working hands-on, doing physical labor, in an outdoor work environment
• Experience working in the construction industry (or relevant)
• Valid driver’s license and reliable driving record
• Must possess, or be able to obtain prior to hire, a valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card
• Must be able to obtain and maintain client-required site access credentials, including petrochemical and port facility access
• Must meet all Intertek and client site pre-employment requirements, including but not limited to criminal background, urinalysis,and hair follicle drug test

Preferred Requirements & Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Construction Material Testing (CMT) experience
• ACI / NICET Certifications
• Plant experience

Physical Work Requirements:

• Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication (hearing) and to make the discriminations sound
• Ability to kneel and squat occasionally
• Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time
• Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions, including hot and cold temperatures
• Ability to climb occasionally, and work at various heights
• Ability to lift, move, push and pull 30 to 49 pounds frequently; Occasionally, over 50 pounds with assistance
