Job summary

S&ME is a leading geotechnical, civil, environmental, and construction materials engineering firm. This full-time role offers on-site field work across multiple sites with year-round outdoor conditions and a focus on accurate testing, documentation, and data management.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED.
• Willingness to obtain certifications is part of growth.
• Strong work ethic and a team mindset.
• Effective communication in English (speaking, reading, writing).
• Basic math with understanding of weight, volume, pressure, and units.
• Understanding of a fluctuating schedule and occasional travel.
• Valid U.S. driver’s license or IDP with driving record.
• Ability to safely operate a company vehicle.
• Willingness to complete a background check, driving record check and drug screen.

Job description

Day-to-Day

• Start with the Basics: Begin with concrete sampling and testing, then expand into soils, asphalt, and masonry as your expertise grows.
• Earn While You Learn: Receive paid, on-the-job training and support for certifications through ACI and ICC.
• Outdoor Work Environment: Enjoy working outside year-round in changing conditions, with new sites and crews keeping things fresh.
• Testing & Documentation: Perform field and laboratory tests, maintain equipment, and ensure accurate, complete reporting.
• Inspections & Standards: Conduct inspections per IBC codes, document findings, and manage data using Metafield®.

Experience shifting work hours based on project needs and weather conditions, including early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and overtime (paid at time and a half).

What You Bring

• A High School diploma/GED
• The curiosity and willingness to learn; obtaining certifications is part of your growth
• A strong work ethic and a team mindset
• Strong attention to detail and effective communication skills in English, including speaking, reading, and writing
• Basic math skills with an understanding of weight, volume, pressure, and units of measure
• Understanding of a fluctuating schedule and occasional travel
• Valid U.S. driver's license or an International Driving Permit (IDP) valid for driving in the United States, with an acceptable driving record
• Ability to safely operate a company-assigned vehicle, including trucks and SUVs
• Willingness to complete a background check, driving record check and drug screen upon offer of employment

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

You are willing and able to perform the physical demands of this position with the use of Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment, such as:

• Working the majority of the time outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Walking over rough, uneven terrain and standing for potentially long periods
• Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
• Working outside of normal business hours when necessary
