Job summary

City of Arlington seeks an entry-level attorney to provide legal assistance to the City on a variety of matters under supervision. The attorney will work toward gaining experience and may focus on Municipal Law, Litigation and Employment or Public Safety.

The role includes legal research, prosecuting cases in municipal court, representing the City in administrative hearings, and drafting ordinances, contracts, and policies. CJIS compliance and ongoing bar licensure are required.

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school.
• Current license to practice law in Texas.
• Ability to locate and analyze statutes, policies and rules.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct legal research to provide opinions and advice.
• Prosecute misdemeanor and civil violations in municipal court, including bench and jury trials.
• Represent the City in administrative hearings.
• Review Public Information Act requests and respond timely.
• Assist in civil litigation defense including drafting pleadings, discovery responses and motions.
• Assist with employee disciplinary investigations and hearings.
• Draft ordinances, resolutions, and policies.
• Review and draft contracts, agreements, deeds, and other legal documents.
• Provide training and legal updates to departments.
