Job summary

Builders FirstSource in the United States is offering a pre-entry-level CAD helper role designed to train you on VectorWorks and foundational construction knowledge while supporting project drawings and documentation.

You will learn to revise sales drawings, create basic electrical layouts, headers, and roof truss layouts, and assist with reports and data plates under the guidance of the Department Leader.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training.
• Organized, efficient, detail-oriented, and willing to assist with all tasks to achieve team success.
• Intermediate experience with 2D (preferably 3D capable) CAD (Vectorworks preferred) and Excel.
• Strong communication and organizational skills are a must.
• Attention to detail and experience with tight deadlines are crucial to success in the position.
• Capable of taking direction and constructive criticism, and help guide the team.
• Flexible and willing to serve changing needs of customers and the Company as a whole, while acting as a team player.

Responsibilities

• Master the VectorWorks CAD software, including operations, commands, shortcuts, etc.
• Learn and develop foundational knowledge of applicable construction codes (IRC, NEC).
• Make revisions to existing 'sales confirmation' drawings, elevations, and foundation designs.
• Calculate header sizing for open spans, windows, doors, and other penetrations in load-bearing walls.
• Produce first-draft 'sales confirmation' drawings, elevations and foundation designs.
• Begin basic electrical layouts and roof truss designs and layouts.
• Prepare accurate and detailed reports (state and HUD label reports) and data plates for individual builds.
• Perform any other tasks assigned by Department Leader.
