Job summary

City of Santa Clara's Department of Public Works is seeking an entry-level Automotive Technician. This role performs routine safety and preventative maintenance inspections of motorized vehicles and equipment, reporting to the Public Works Supervisor or higher.

Minimum qualifications include high school graduation and at least one year of automotive or heavy equipment servicing experience. Applicants must obtain a California driver’s license and ASE certifications; a Class A with air brake test

Qualifications

  • Minimum Education Requirements: Graduation from high school or equivalent
  • Minimum Experience Requirements: One year of automotive or heavy equipment servicing work
  • Possible Substitution: College coursework or trade school may substitute for up to one year of experience
  • License/Certifications: California class C driver's license; Class A with air brake; ASE Certifications A1, A4, A5, A6, A7, A8, A9 or L1 or L3
  • Desirable Qualifications: California Class A driver's license with Air Brake Test is highly desirable
  • Other Requirements: Ability to perform essential functions; may require shift work; drug/alcohol testing; provide tools as required
