Job summary

The Arborist I role at Biltmore Company supports tree maintenance on the Biltmore Estate. The position involves assisting with tasks under the direction of the Manager and Crew Leader, including lowering and rigging lines, operating chainsaws, and using other equipment.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED, at least two years in arboriculture, basic tree identification, and proficiency with ropes and knots. CDL Class A/B preferred or obtainable within six months.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required; additional education or certifications strongly preferred.
• A minimum of two years of arboriculture or related experience.
• Must have basic tree identification skills.
• Proficiency in tree removal with ropes, knots, and rigging.
• Ability to use a chainsaw, chipper, skid steer, loader, aerial lift, and other equipment.
• Familiarity with ANSI Z133 and A300 standards.
• Must be at least 21 years old.
• CPR and First Aid certification or ability to obtain within 2 months.
• NC Commercial Driver License Class A or B (or obtain in 6 months)

Responsibilities

• Operates hand tools, chainsaws, tractors, loaders, grapples, winches, chippers, stump cutters, skid steers, and other arborists vehicles and equipment as directed in a safe and responsible manner.
• Performs worksite setup and traffic control
• Maintains and keeps track of tools and equipment, ensuring that all equipment and keys are properly stored and secured at day's end.
• Assists in preparing equipment and materials needed for the day's work as directed by the crew leader and/or manager
• Performs housekeeping duties to maintain a clean, uncluttered, and safe work environment.
• Ability to perform and assist with an aerial rescue
• May operate aerial lift as directed
• Available for nights, weekends, and holidays as determined by Arborist Manager
