Job summary

Gables Engineering, a HEICO company based in Coral Gables, FL, seeks an Automation Engineer I to design, build, and program test fixtures that verify avionics assemblies on the production floor.

This entry-level role, reporting to the Director of Automation Engineering, involves owning fixture projects from concept to deployment, wiring parts, writing software, and training technicians. Growth into broader automation work is encouraged.

Qualifications

• BS degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Automation/Manufacturing Engineering.
• 0-3 years of relevant experience; internships welcome.
• Ability to build and wire fixtures yourself.
• Familiarity with data acquisition hardware and basic instruments.
• CAD software such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD.

Responsibilities

• Design and build electrical/mechanical test fixtures for functional, in-circuit, and burn-in testing, based on product schematics and engineering specifications.
• Select and wire interface hardware, including connectors, relays, switches, pneumatics, and sensors.
• Write and debug test scripts and control software (primarily LabVIEW) to run fixtures and record pass/fail results.
• Prototype each fixture and test it against known-good and known-bad units until results are repeatable.
• Train test technicians and production operators to set up, run, and troubleshoot new fixtures.
• Maintain calibration, preventive maintenance, and spare parts for assigned fixtures.
• Find manual test or inspection steps that could be automated, and propose projects to reduce cycle time and errors.
