Job summary

Matthews International is seeking an Entry Design & Product Engineer (Software) to design and develop software in collaboration with product development. The role covers the full product life-cycle from concept to end-of-life support and requires knowledge of equipment, business and customer requirements.

This is a hybrid position working 3 days onsite (Tue, Wed, Thu) at Cranberry Township and 2 days remote. Local Pittsburgh area candidates are preferred.

Qualifications

• Proficient in designing and developing software components.
• Experience with coding, testing, implementing and maintaining application software.
• Ability to document software components and create user documentation.
• Familiarity with database design, data processing and security considerations.
• Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot simple to moderate software issues.

Job description

The Entry Design & Product Engineer (Software) uses established procedures to perform a variety of engineering work related to designing and developing computer software in conjunction with product development. This position knows fundamental concepts, practices and procedures required to design and develop software and works on projects/matters of limited complexity. This role has a fundamental understanding of equipment requirements along with business and customer requirements that drive the design of the technical solution and participates in all phases of product development life-cycle, including concept and prototype analysis, design, production launch, sustaining production, and end-of-life support of designed equipment, as well as the support of complementary engineering staff for application configuration and startup support.

This is a hybrid role working 3 days (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) onsite at our Cranberry Township location and 2 days remotely. Candidates must be able to interview onsite. We are looking for local Pittsburgh based candidates for this role.

Additionally, we are looking for someone to start in October or November 2026, as this role is immediately available.*

• Analyzes project requirements and assists with coding, testing, implementing, maintaining and supporting application software. Completes system development from technical specifications provided.
• Participates in the analysis, design, construction of application, business reports, component design, performance monitoring and product evaluation.
• Documents software components and applications and creates user documentation and assists in implementation and support software.
• Participates in system tuning, optimization of information/data processing, maintenance and support of the production environment.
• Maintains database administration to design, develop and update databases as required and ensures security of all software and related applications.
• Diagnoses and troubleshoots simple problems with existing applications, software and data.
• Additional duties as assigned.
