Job summary

Battelle is seeking a researcher to assist in developing and evaluating products and technologies that protect deployed forces from disease-carrying insects. The role blends field and laboratory work, requiring strong entomology and public health knowledge, plus data analysis and reporting responsibilities.

The position involves training junior staff, preparing reports, and presenting findings at meetings. US citizenship and potential DoD security clearance are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree closely related to entomology/public health/biology/environmental science with relevant emphasis required.
• 3 – 5 years of relevant experience with Masters, 5 – 10 years with Bachelors. BCE may be equivalent.
• Professional work experience in entomological research, development, prevention, or control including field/lab work.
• Understanding of insecticide chemistry, biology, and public health concepts related to vector control.
• Experience with project design, data analysis, and publication in peer-reviewed journals.

Responsibilities

• Apply scientific methods to design, conduct and analyze field or semi-field research evaluating pesticides and vector tools.
• Design and analyze laboratory tests with multiple procedures and technical approaches.
• Conduct research independently or with other staff.
• Perform laboratory rearing of insects and maintain facilities.
• Analyze data and verify data entry.
• Prepare technical material and training manuals.
• Evaluate vector surveillance tools and pathogen diagnostics.
• Train junior staff in techniques as needed.
• Document procedures for data collection and analysis.
• Obtain training from SMEs to master new equipment and techniques.
