Job summary

The University of Illinois System is seeking an Enterprise Systems Specialist to provide expert support for enterprise information systems, focusing on process analysis, module functionality, and upgrade support. You will assist users, coordinate configurations, and help drive quality improvements across HR, Finance, and Student systems.

Preferred candidates have Oracle/SQL experience, familiarity with batch scheduling tools, UNIX/Linux environments, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years (24 months) IT-related education or work experience.
  • Preferred: Bachelor degree in technical or business field.
  • Experience with Oracle DBMS and SQL.
  • Experience with batch scheduling tools, PL/SQL, Java, and UNIX/Linux environments.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-level understanding of the University's enterprise information systems and support workflows.
  • Assist users and provide SME expertise to clients.
  • Coordinate system process configuration to support functional areas.
  • Lead information systems problem solving and planning to support university operations.
  • Recommend actions to improve operations and correct errors in HR/Finance/Student systems.
  • Support production-critical activities during non-business hours as needed.
  • Stay informed on contemporary enterprise technology and vendor interactions.
  • Perform related responsibilities for Enterprise Systems Specialist.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide the highest level of understanding of the University's enterprise information systems. Focus includes continued process and workflow analysis, enhanced module functionality, and application/upgrade support. (10%)
  • Assist users in functional areas to understand and apply best practices and provide subject-matter expertise to internal and external clients as required. (15%)
  • Manage and coordinate system process configuration to support functional areas. (15%)
  • Manage and coordinate information systems problem solving, solution development, decision-making, and participate in planning that will further the mission and vision of the current and future business environment. (25%)
  • Recommend action to improve operations and correct sources of error in information that impacts University Human Resources, Financial and/or Student activities. Facilitate quality improvement efforts. (15%)
  • Support production-critical activities during non-business hours, as needed. This may require evening or weekend hours, depending on the business cycle of the University. (5%)
  • Keep informed of and apply contemporary technology related to enterprise systems. (5%)
  • Interact with vendors regarding software upgrades, patches, etc. (5%)
  • Perform other related responsibilities as assigned as appropriate for an Enterprise Systems Specialist. (5%)
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Any one or any combination totaling two (2) years (24 months) from the following categories:
    • College coursework which includes Information Technology (IT), IT Management, Programming, IT systems, or a closely related discipline, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent: 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months), Associate's Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months), 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months), Bachelor's Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months)
    • Work experience in IT-related functions, such as hardware/software support, programming, network design, network engineering, IT systems integration, or closely related field.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor degree in a technical or business-related field.
  • Experience with business and systems analysis.
  • Experience with Oracle Database Management System and SQL.
  • Experience with one or more of the following technical tools: Microsoft Office, Application Manager (or another batch scheduling tool), PL/SQL, Java, other object-oriented concepts.
  • Experience working in a UNIX (preferably Solaris) or Linux environment.
  • Knowledge of an ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system, including Finance, Financial Aid, Human Resources, or Student Administration.
  • Requisite technical skills to make recommendations on strategy and approach for continued high functionality of enterprise applications in support of the University's vision and strategic plan.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, working with diverse groups of individuals and building partnerships.
  • Strong communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Ability to work independently, to be a team leader, and to work as a team member.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and to work with shifting priorities and schedules.
APPOINTMENT INFORMATION

This is a 100% Civil Service Information Technology Tech Associateposition. The expected start date is as soon as possible.Sponsorship for work authorization is not available for this position. The budgeted salary range for the position is $80,000.00 - 90,000.00. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity. This position is intended to be eligible for benefits . This includes Health, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, a Retirement Plan, Paid time Off, and Tuition waivers for employees and dependents.
