Santander is seeking an Enterprise Risk Management Associate to support RCSA testing and risk assessment activities in the United States. The role is part of the Second Line of Defense and collaborates with risk owners to ensure adherence to risk frameworks and policies.

The incumbent will identify key risks, develop KRIs/KPIs, assist with remediation, and help drive risk management practices across the assigned business line, partnering with internal and external stakeholders as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (or equivalent).
  • 5+ years in risk management, internal controls, auditing, or regulatory functions (required).
  • Experience supporting risk projects across multiple business lines in financial services (required).
  • Experience collaborating with internal/external service providers to meet resource needs (required).
  • Strong knowledge of banking regulatory environment and risk management practices (preferred).

The Associate, Risk Management operates within the Second Line of Defense and is accountable to assist the Business Control & Risk Management team in driving effective and consistent business line execution against the Enterprise Risk Management Framework. Specifically, the Associate works to identify, assess key risks and control effectiveness throughout the assigned business line by driving business unit adherence with applicable risk frameworks, Corporate/Business Line policies and standards. The incumbent will also assist with completion of business line risk initiatives, as assigned, such as risk assessments, KRI/KPI development and monitoring, and on-time remediation of issues. The Associate must be able to effectively partner with various stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Drive Risk Culture: Ensure awareness in the Business Line of risk frameworks, policies and standards.
  • Communication & Training: Work with team members and key stakeholders to develop appropriate metrics and deliver relevant and accurate data.
  • Work with internal teams to gain an in-depth understanding of existing risks, causes, severity rating, controls and issues.
  • Adherence to Risk Frameworks, Policies, and Standards – Partner with SLoD to provide input/review of frameworks, policies and standards.
  • Facilitate Business Line awareness of and adherence to risk frameworks, policies, and standards and issue validation.
  • Continuously monitors all sources of risk existing within the Business Line and externally.
  • Engage in research, peer networking, and experience to anticipate critical risk issues impacting the Business Line.
  • Where applicable, Issue Identification, Management, and Risk Assessment: Conduct RCSA responsibilities including Process Mapping, Risk & Control Matrices, Inherent Risk Assessments, Internal Control testing and Heracles data/input.
  • Internal Control Testing: Implement and maintain internal control testing and control effectiveness monitoring in the Business Line. Validate the adequacy of controls, and escalates deficiencies as appropriate.
  • Identify root causes of control deficiencies/weak Exam Management: Liaison with the Business Line for all exam related activities including regulatory, Internal Audit and Credit Risk Review. Review materials, responses and validate Business Line remediation work (e.g. artifacts, action plans, etc.).
  • Support the implementation of Key Risk Indicator (KRI) framework: Formally define and document metric definition details (metric type, provider, approver, numerator & denominator descriptions, source, scope, thresholds, Risk Basel category).
Required Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent demonstrated through a combination of work experience, training, military service, or education – Required.
  • Education: Master’s degree in a related field or equivalent demonstrated through a combination of work experience, training, military service, or education – Preferred.
  • Professional Experience: 5+ years of experience in risk management, internal controls, auditing, credit management, a relevant line of business, and/or legal or regulatory functions – Required.
  • Professional Experience: Demonstrated experience supporting and/or leading risk projects across multiple business lines offering a broad range of financial services products and services – Required.
  • Professional Experience: Experience collaborating with internal and external service providers to establish resource requirements, schedules, assignments, and service levels – Required.
  • Skills: Advanced understanding of the financial services regulatory environment and how risks associated with banking products and services are viewed by the Second Line of Defense and regulators.
  • Skills: Knowledge of the financial services sector, including competitive dynamics, retail banking products, and risk management practices.
  • Skills: Understanding of Bank Secrecy Act/Anti-Money Laundering (BSA/AML) and Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) regulations, regulatory expectations, and industry-leading practices.

  • Skills: Excellent analytical and complex problem-solving skills.
  • Skills: Ability to produce high-quality, accurate documentation with strong attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Certifications: Risk certification, such as Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC), Financial Risk Manager (FRM), Professional Risk Manager (PRM), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM), or a comparable risk management certification – Preferred.
  • It Would Be Nice For You To Have: Established work history or equivalent demonstrated through a combination of work experience, training, military service, or education.

Base Pay Range
  • Minimum: $80,625.00 USD
  • Maximum: $140,000.00 USD
