Job summary

Esri is seeking a senior database engineer to design and implement scalable, secure enterprise databases for defense and intelligence customers in a Washington DC area role.

You will work across Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and SAP HANA environments, focusing on performance, security, and disaster recovery while leveraging cloud solutions like AWS RDS and Azure SQL. A Top Secret clearance is required and relocation support is available.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of hands-on experience in database design, administration, and optimization for Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or SAP HANA.
• Experience with database design principles, data loading techniques, backup/recovery, performance monitoring, maintenance, and security.
• Scripting in SQL and Python for automation and data workflows.
• Experience with cloud-based database solutions (AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database).
• Understanding of geospatial concepts such as spatial data types and spatial indexing.
• Clear communication of complex technical concepts to technical peers and non-technical stakeholders.
• US citizenship with Active/Current Top Secret Security Clearance with SCI eligibility.

Overview

Design the data foundation behind mission-critical geospatial systems.

Join Esri`s Professional Services organization and partner with Defense and Intelligence customers to design, implement, secure, and optimize enterprise database environments supporting geospatial applications.

You'll bring deep database engineering expertise to complex customer environments, working across database architecture, performance, automation, security, high availability, disaster recovery, cloud database technologies, and spatial data. You'll also advise customers on database design, migration, and integration approaches throughout the engagement lifecycle.

Esri has a Relocation Assistance Program and can provide support with relocating to the Washington DC area for this position.

Requirements

• Scripting skills in SQL and Python for automation and data workflows
• Experience with cloud-based database solutions (such as AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database)
• Understanding of geospatial concepts such as spatial data types, coordinate systems, and spatial indexing
• Ability to clearly communicate complex technical concepts to technical peers and non-technical project managers or customers
• US citizenship with Active or Current (within 2 years of active) Top Secret Security Clearance with SCI eligibility
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, mathematics, GIS, or related STEM field

Recommended Qualifications

• Experience with ArcGIS Enterprise geodatabases
• Knowledge of integrating GIS with other enterprise systems
• CompTIA Security + certification
• One or more industry-standard IT certifications (such as Esri, Microsoft, Amazon, PostgreSQL, Oracle)
• Master's degree in computer science, mathematics, GIS or related STEM field

A reasonable estimate of the base salary range is: $120,640 USD - $197,600 USD
