Location: Hybrid, New York / New Jersey. Regular onsite presence at client offices in the NY/NJ area.

Role Overview

Fractal is seeking a senior enterprise architecture leader to join Fractal full time and support a leading U.S. insurance client. Embedded with the client's architecture organization and reporting day to day to its Chief Architect, you will establish the architectural vision, governance, and operating model needed to scale AI safely and consistently as an enterprise capability, while modernizing the broader enterprise architecture function across data, cloud, applications, platform, and APIs.

This is a strategic architecture leadership role, not a solution design role. You will need to understand the technology landscape in depth and write clear, credible plans, but you are not expected to be hands-on with every tool. Success in the role takes strong strategic thinking, breadth across architecture domains, executive-level communication, and the ability to influence across a large, complex, federated organization. TOGAF certification is not required; working knowledge of TOGAF and the ADM is. Insurance experience is a strong plus, and broader financial services experience is valued.

Responsibilities
  • Own the enterprise architecture vision. Define and maintain the enterprise target-state architecture and the technology roadmaps that tie it to business strategy, spanning data, AI, cloud, applications, platform, and integration (APIs).
  • Diagnose the current state. Untangle how this large, federated organization and its architecture function are structured today, identify gaps and overlaps, and turn them into clear, prioritized recommendations.
  • Lead architecture governance. Establish and run governance across data, AI, cloud, application, platform, and integration domains so investments are scalable, reusable, and aligned to business strategy rather than decided project by project. Keep federated teams connected to the central architecture function through enterprise standards, communities of practice, and risk-aware decision‑making.
  • Shape enterprise AI strategy and architecture. Define the architecture, operating model, and guardrails needed to scale AI safely, efficiently, and consistently across the enterprise.
  • Write the plans. Author architecture strategies, roadmaps, standards, and decision papers, with enough command of the underlying platforms and tools, including enterprise risk and governance tooling, to evaluate options and direct the work without configuring them hands‑on.
  • Challenge and direct. Push back where needed, direct architecture and delivery teams, and advise senior leadership, including the Chief Architect, by surfacing issues early and recommending a clear course of action.
  • Partner across teams. Work day to day with the client's Chief Architect and its engineering, data, security, and risk teams, with support from Fractal's Cloud and Data Technology and Financial Services practice leaders.
  • Mentor and guide. Coach architects and engineers and raise the bar for architecture practice, leading by influence across cross-functional groups.
  • Own engagement outcomes. Be accountable for the quality of your work and for client satisfaction as a Fractal leader embedded with the client.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related technical field
  • 15+ years of experience in technology leadership, including senior enterprise architecture roles
  • Working knowledge of TOGAF and the ADM (certification not required)
  • Proven record of defining target‑state architectures, roadmaps, and governance models across data, AI, cloud, application, platform, and integration (API) domains
  • Strong understanding of the enterprise technology landscape, including cloud and data platforms, AI and GenAI, API and integration patterns (REST, SOAP), and enterprise risk and governance tooling (such as ServiceNow IRM, Archer, and CMDB), sufficient to evaluate options and direct work without hands‑on configuration
  • Ability to assess a large, complex, federated organization, identify structural and architectural gaps, and recommend practical solutions
  • Confidence and credibility to push back, influence, and direct teams and senior executives
  • Strong strategic thinking and architecture breadth, with the ability to influence across a large, complex, and federated enterprise environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, including clear plans, strategy documents, and executive presentations
  • Preferred: experience in insurance (life, annuity, or retirement especially) or broader financial services, but not required
Pay

The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Fractal, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the starting base range is $225,000 to $265,000. Final compensation depends on skills, experience and training, certifications, and the needs of the role, and may be higher for candidates whose experience significantly exceeds the requirements. In addition, for the current performance period, you may be eligible for a discretionary bonus.

As a full-time employee of the company or as an hourly employee working more than 30 hours per week, you will be eligible to participate in the health, dental, vision, life insurance, and disability plans in accordance with the plan documents, which may be amended from time to time. You will be eligible for benefits on the first day of employment with the Company.
