Fractal is seeking a Principal Engineering Leader for Healthcare Data & AI in New York City. You will own the technical direction across pre-sales, solution design, and high-stakes implementations, engaging CIO/CTO-level executives to drive enterprise-scale AI platforms.

As we scale our Healthcare and Life Sciences (HLS) practice in the United States, we are looking for a Principal Engineering Leader to serve as the senior technical leader for the practice. You will be the technical face of Fractal HLS in front of client CIOs and CTOs, leading pre-sales, shaping solutions, and helping us win and grow large Data & AI programs.

This is not a delivery or single-project role. It is a client-facing, practice-wide leadership position for someone who can command respect from senior technology executives, lead technical pursuits end to end, and build a team of senior architects and engineering leaders underneath them.

The Opportunity

As Principal Engineering Leader for Healthcare Data & AI, you will own the technical side of the HLS portfolio, from pre-sales and solution design through oversight of high-stakes implementations. You will front every major technical conversation with clients and make sure ambitious business goals turn into secure, scalable, production-grade AI platforms.

You will:

• Lead pre-sales and RFPs: own technical pursuits across the HLS portfolio, including solution design, architecture, effort and cost positioning, and orals, to help Fractal win new programs and expand existing accounts.
• Be the technical voice with client executives: hold credible, peer-level conversations with CIOs, CTOs, and CDOs on AI platform strategy, architecture, cloud spend optimization, and modernization roadmaps.
• Shape enterprise AI and data platforms: guide the architecture of AI platforms built on Databricks, Azure, and AWS, including context layers, AI gateways, and agentic AI solutions grounded in enterprise data.
• Front-end high-stakes engagements: stay close to critical programs as the senior technical lead with the client, while your team owns day-to-day delivery.
• Build and lead the team: manage a group of senior architects and engineering leaders (starting with 3 to 4 direct reports, growing over time), with broader indirect teams across the US.
• Grow the portfolio: help drive technology product sales and implementations across a portfolio of roughly $20M.
• Industrialize AI and GenAI: help clients move from experimentation to enterprise-scale impact through strong governance, security, and MLOps/LLMOps/AgentOps practices.

Qualifications & Experience

• AI platform experience (non-negotiable): hands-on experience shaping and delivering AI platforms, including context layers, AI gateways, agentic AI, and Databricks-based AI capabilities.
• Pre-sales and executive presence: proven track record leading technical pre-sales, RFP responses, and solutioning, and driving technical discussions directly with CIO/CTO-level leaders.
• Databricks, Azure, and AWS: strong working knowledge of Databricks plus at least one of Azure or AWS (ideally both). Breadth across the stack matters more than deep specialization in a single tool.
• Portfolio scale: experience owning or supporting a large technology portfolio (around $20M) across multiple clients or programs.
• Leadership of leaders: experience hiring, developing, and managing senior architects or engineering managers.
• Consulting or client-services background: management consulting, digital consulting, SI, or equivalent client-facing engineering leadership roles.
• Production delivery track record: has taken Data & AI platforms from pilot to enterprise-scale production, not just proofs of concept.

Strong Preferences

• Healthcare or life sciences experience: payer, provider, or life sciences are all welcome. Candidates without domain experience will be expected to ramp up within the first 3 months.
• Knowledge architecture: semantic layers, ontologies, and knowledge graphs that ground GenAI in enterprise data.
• Hyperscaler or SI background: current or former Principal / Solutions / Enterprise Architects or technical pre-sales leaders at AWS, Microsoft, Databricks, or major SIs.
• Experience: roughly 15+ years, with a clear step up from engineering manager or architect into senior technical leadership.

Pay:

The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Fractal, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is: $200,000 - $265,000. In addition, for the current performance period, you may be eligible for a discretionary bonus.

As a full-time employee of the company or as an hourly employee working more than 30 hours per week, you will be eligible to participate in the health, dental, vision, life insurance, and disability plans in accordance with the plan documents, which may be amended from time to time. You will be eligible for benefits on the first day of employment with the Company. In addition, you are eligible to participate in the Company 401(k) Plan after 30 days of employment, in accordance with the applicable plan terms. The Company provides for 11 paid holidays and 12 weeks of Parental Leave. We also follow a “free time” PTO policy, allowing you the flexibility to take time needed for either sick time or vacation.
