Job description

About the Opportunity

Avenue Code is seeking an experienced Sr Enterprise Architect to lead enterprise-wide technology and business transformation initiatives. In this role, you will define and shape current and future-state architectures across business, application, data, and technology domains, ensuring they align with strategy, operational priorities, and governance standards. Acting as a trusted advisor, you'll partner closely with business leaders, product teams, engineering, and other architects to translate objectives into actionable outcomes. This role contributes to enterprise architecture platforms, portfolio management practices, and architectural governance, providing fact-based insights that inform investment decisions, roadmap planning, and technology evolution.

Responsibilities
  • Enterprise Business Architecture: Develop and maintain business capability models, value streams, and business process views to support strategic planning and execution; define current and target-state architectures across business, application, data, and technology layers.
  • Architecture Governance & Standards: Define, document, and enforce enterprise architecture principles, standards, and reference architectures; participate in architecture reviews to ensure solution designs align with enterprise direction, security, and compliance requirements; provide architectural guidance to delivery teams throughout the enterprise delivery lifecycle.
  • Application & Technology Portfolio Management: Support enterprise application and technology portfolio management, including rationalization, lifecycle management, and dependency mapping; analyze cost, risk, technical debt, and business value to inform roadmap and investment decisions; partner with platform, infrastructure, and security teams to assess technology lifecycle impacts.
  • Enterprise Architecture Platforms & Data: Contribute to the development and adoption of enterprise architecture tools and platforms that consolidate strategy, execution, and operational data; ensure high-quality architecture data, models, and relationships are maintained to support reporting and decision-making.
  • Stakeholder Partnership & Influence: Collaborate with business leaders, product owners, and engineering teams to translate complex business needs into architecture direction; communicate architecture concepts clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders; serve as a trusted advisor, influencing decisions across teams and levels of the organization.
  • Mentoring: Mentor and guide less experienced architects and engineers on architecture best practices; promote continuous improvement in architecture methods, tools, and ways of working.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 10+ years of progressively complex experience in enterprise, solution, or technical architecture roles.
  • Demonstrated mastery of modern architecture and design patterns across web, data-intensive and distributed systems, including AI-driven agentic systems, retrieval augmented generation, microservices, event-driven and API-first architectures, cloud-native platforms, containers/orchestration, and performance, resilience, security, and observability by design.
  • Strong experience with AI, enterprise data and integration architectures, including streaming and batch data patterns, data lakehouse and data mesh principles, and distributed systems design.
  • Proven ability to partner closely with engineering teams to guide solution design from concept through implementation.
  • Hands-on proficiency working with operational and financial data to support portfolio analysis, rationalization, risk management, and roadmap decisions in large-scale enterprise environments.
What You Bring To The Table
  • Strong strategic thinking with an enterprise mindset.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and systems-thinking skills.
  • Ability to influence without authority and navigate complex stakeholder environments.
  • Clear, concise verbal and written communication skills across technical and business audiences.
Nice to Have Skills
  • Master’s or Doctoral degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with TOGAF and ArchiMate, including enterprise architecture governance concepts, capability-to-solution traceability, and creation and interpretation of architecture models.
  • Experience supporting or operating within complex, large-scale enterprise or retail environments with diverse technology portfolios.
