Job summary

Houston Information Technology Services seeks an IT Architect overseeing Applications (Responsible AI & Innovation) to lead enterprise AI strategy, governance, and adoption. You will align AI initiatives with city priorities, work across departments, and ensure secure, scalable, and compliant solutions.

The role blends architecture leadership with hands‑on engagement, driving ethical AI and data‑driven decisions for public services.

Qualifications

• Requires hands-on experience with AI and data platforms (Azure AI, Copilot) and ML frameworks.
• Strong understanding of data governance, security, privacy, and responsible‑AI in public‑sector contexts.
• Ability to translate business needs into viable AI opportunities, assessing feasibility, risk, and impact.
• Extensive enterprise IT architecture experience focusing on AI, data, or analytics.
• Proven ability to review or develop architectures, reference architectures, and standards.
• Experience leading pilots/PoCs and guiding scalable deployment.
• Experience supporting digital champions or capability‑building programs.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement across divisions and federated IT.
• Familiarity with IT governance processes (RFP/SOW, vendor evaluations, risk).

Responsibilities

• Lead enterprise AI strategy, governance, and adoption for City departments.
• Develop AI use cases, pilots, and proofs‑of‑concept with procurement involvement.
• Engage stakeholders across divisions to align AI initiatives with priorities.
• Ensure AI initiatives are secure, ethical, scalable, and compliant with standards.
• Coach digital champions and build AI capability across the organization.
