Job summary

CIRES at University of Colorado Boulder seeks a Professional Research Assistant to generate real-time ensemble cluster and sensitivity analysis tools from convection-allowing forecast datasets for WPC use. The role includes developing training materials and assisting with ensemble post-processing for NOAA Testbed experiments.

The position collaborates with federal staff, NOAA scientists, and CIRES partners, while guiding operations-ready tools and training programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in meteorology, atmospheric science, or related field with at least two years of directly relevant experience.
• Master’s degree in meteorology, atmospheric science, or related field with relevant experience is acceptable.
• Experience with large meteorological datasets and statistical methods.

Responsibilities

• Identify and develop short-range ensemble-based tools for forecast preparation.
• Maintain and enhance WPC’s operational forecast tools.
• Support collaborative transition to operations convection-allowing probabilistic forecast tools.
• Develop training materials for user transition to new tools.
• Collaborate on proposals, publications, and attend workshops.
