Job summary

Franklin Biolabs in King of Prussia, PA is seeking an Enrichment Technician to work with the Behavior team, providing enrichment and behavioral support for laboratory animals, in support of discovery and preclinical research programs.

You will follow SOPs, ensure regulatory compliance, travel up to 5% domestically, and communicate effectively with team members, clients, and vendors in a fast-paced, on-site environment.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma and 3 years of animal husbandry or related animal care experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Certification by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) as Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance and agencies (USDA, OLAW, FDA, AAALAC).
  • Knowledge of animal care and use and regulatory expectations.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide enrichment to all animals and behavioral support as needed.
  • Perform behavioral assessments and enrichment program implementation.
  • Conduct behavioral training and modifications for experimental procedures.
  • Support discovery and preclinical research programs in laboratory animals.
  • Ensure compliance with SOPs and regulatory guidelines.

The Enrichment Technician will work closely with colleagues and the Behavior team to ensure the highest level of holistic care for animals with Franklin Biolabs by providing enrichment to all animals and behavioral support as needed. The Enrichment Technician will follow the program for psychological well-being of laboratory animals by performing behavioral assessments, implementing enrichment programs, and conducting behavioral training and modifications that may be used for experimental procedures. Provide support to Franklin Biolab's discovery and preclinical research programs conducted in laboratory animals. Technician will ensure compliance with Franklin Biolab SOPs and policy, regulatory guidelines and departmental standard operating procedures as it pertains to the ethical animal care and use.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma and 3 years of animal husbandry or related animal care experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

Certifications or Licenses:

  • Certification by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) as Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) highly preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance and agencies (USDA, OLAW, FDA, AAALAC).
  • Knowledge of animal care and use and regulatory expectations.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and negotiate through conflicting situations.
  • Self-directed individual with the ability to perform in a fast-paced environment with limited direction, competing priorities under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, to interact with team members, clients, vendors and other third parties.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with individuals across various disciplines to ensure alignment.
  • Ability to use digital communication tools (video conferencing, chat platforms etc.) to effectively collaborate with team members in hybrid and remote settings.

Travel:

  • Ability to travel domestically and/or internationally up to 5% of the time, depending on the needs of the project, the client and the company.
  • Ability to accommodate evening, overnight or weekend travel, including potential extended trips to attend training, meetings, conduct fieldwork, or meet with clients.

On-Site:

  • This position requires full-time on-site presence at our Discovery Labs location.

Immunizations and Screenings:

  • This position will require working with animals (e.g. Non-Human Primates, Rabbits, Rats, Mice).
  • This position will require access to lab animal spaces.
  • Essential for Closure: This position may be required to go on-site during company closures to sustain the life and care of animals/biological materials. Examples of company closures include snow days, special shutdowns, etc.
  • Essential for Research: This position may be required to go on-site to perform their regular work functions related to continued research during periods of adjusted operations. This would not likely be required to go on-site during a company closure under normal business operations.

  • Ability to distinguish between different colors (normal color vision).
  • Ability to see clearly at various distances.
  • Adequate near vision for reading documents or lab equipment.
  • Ability to focus and maintain concentration in tasks for extended periods.
