arc After School and Experiential Education seeks an Enrichment Instructor for Barbering in the Greater San Diego Area. You will provide hands-on barbering instruction, cover tool introductions, grooming techniques, and career exploration in an after‑school setting.

The ideal candidate has barbering experience and a passion for mentoring youth. You will create a fun, supportive learning environment and help students build practical skills, confidence, and self-expression.

Qualifications

• Official/unofficial college transcripts confirming 48+ completed college units (60 units for high school) or a passing score on an academic proficiency exam.
• Experience in instructing/teaching, especially with elementary to high school aged students.
• Ability to assess and address student challenges.
• Adaptive to communication styles, motivation needs, and different learning needs.
• Schedule flexibility/availability pertinent to after school instruction hours.
• Experience working with youth in diverse communities.
• CPR Certification (Adult, Child, and Infant) preferred.

Job Details: Job Location: Greater San Diego Area - San Diego, CA 92108, Position Type: Part Time, Salary Range: $35.00 - $35.00 Hourly, The Enrichment Instructor for Barbering will provide hands-on, engaging barbering instruction for students in an after-school enrichment setting. Classes may include introductions to barbering tools, haircut design, grooming techniques, hygiene and sanitation practices, client communication, entrepreneurship, and career exploration within the barbering industry. The ideal candidate will have professional barbering experience and a passion for mentoring young people. They must be energetic, approachable, and capable of creating a fun, supportive learning environment where students can build practical skills, confidence, and self-expression.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Review curriculum and create lesson plans
• Facilitate classroom-based lessons and activities applicable to elementary through high school age range
• Maintain student engagement in course material and redirect unwanted behaviors
• Maintain course kits, instruments and equipment and see to cleanliness and functionality
• Communicate regularly with Coordinators regarding course matters including material needs, site specifics and curriculum efficacy
• Provide structured warm-up and cool-down activities
• Plan and deliver art lessons that encourage and foster creative expression
• Prepare engaging, hands-on projects that allow students to showcase their work and builds their portfolio
• Develop student skills that demonstrate understanding and creates a fun and positive learning environment
• Assess student progress, provide feedback, and support students in their application of artistic techniques
• Adapt teaching methods to meet the needs of students with different abilities and experience levels
• Stay current with trends that are relevant and interesting for a range of student interests
• Encourage collaboration among students
• Maintain a safe and supportive classroom environment
• Maintain attendance records and participate in staff meetings or training sessions as needed

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

Education & Experience

• Official/unofficial college transcripts that confirm 48+ completed college units (60 units for high school) or a passing score on an academic proficiency exam
• Experience in instructing/teaching, especially with elementary to high school aged students
• Ability to assess and address student challenges
• Adaptive to communication styles, motivation needs, and different learning needs
• Schedule flexibility/availability pertinent to after school instruction hours based on the needs of a given course cycle
• Experience working with youth in diverse communities
• CPR Certification (Adult, Child, and Infant) preferred

Additional Requirements

• Negative TB test result and COVID-19 vaccination record
• Completion of Live Scan background check
• Availability to work before/after school hours and some
• Ability to travel to assigned school sites and to the Arc office
