As a Security Officer – Tactical, physical ability is essential as you will be moving around your entire shift, patrolling environments such as retail stores, airports, detention centers, etc.

Responsibilities of Tactical Security Guard and Qualifications:
- Licensing: Already possess jurisdictional armed security licensing (VA DCJS Armed License with Handgun Endorsement).
- Experience: Have law enforcement experience (to include corrections, prior military service, or Enhanced Armed Security Officer or similar role experience) of at least 3 consecutive years within the last 10 years. This must be accurately documented on the candidate's resume.
- Marksmanship: Demonstrate proficiency with the semi-automatic pistol platform and successfully complete the current FBI Standard Qualification Course with a minimum score of 80%.
- Certifications: Complete judgmental use-of-force training, De-escalation training, CPR/AED certification, and Stop the Bleed training.
- Fitness: Maintain elevated physical fitness standards. Physical fitness must be demonstrated during an assessment and passed in order to be hired.
- Maintenance: Physical fitness, firearm certifications, judgment and legal use of force training, CPR, and Stop the Bleed certifications all must be passed and maintained up to date by the new hire during their tenure at the site.
Hiring Process:
Phase 1: Baseline Candidate Eligibility
- Professional Credentials: Licensing verifications and employment verification.
- Background History & Drug Screening: Experience validation, comprehensive background investigation, prior disciplinary review, and drug screening.
- Compliance Checks: Human Resources review and firearms history review.
Phase 2: Operational Qualification
- Firearms Proficiency: Standard Qualification Course (minimum 80% score) and reduced-light firearms qualification.
- Tactical & Legal Decision-Making: Judgmental use-of-force instruction alongside legal authority and use-of-force training.
- Medical Response: CPR/AED training and Stop the Bleed certification.
- Physical Evaluation: Physical readiness assessment conducted in accordance with established program standards. Program administrators will partner with corporate safety and security teams during implementation to ensure objective, job-related physical readiness criteria are aligned with the essential functions of the position.
Phase 3: Site Certifications and Trainings
Firearms & Tactical Proficiency:
- FBI Qualification: Passing the standard qualification course.
- Weapons Safety: Core rules for safe weapon handling and management.
- Holster Proficiency: Drawing, drawing under stress, and secure re-holstering.
- Reduced-Light Operations: Firing and navigating in low-visibility environments.
- Weapon Handling: General mechanics, operation, and maintenance.
- Remedial Procedures: Steps for weapon malfunctions and re-qualification.
Emergency Medical Response:
- CPR Certification: Administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
- AED Utilization: Operating automated external defibrillators.
- Stop the Bleed Certification: Formal training for severe hemorrhage control.
- Tourniquet Application: Rapidly deploying tourniquets to limbs.
- Casualty Assessment: Performing quick triage and evaluating injuries.
- Response Coordination: Managing communication with municipal emergency services.
Use of Force & Decision Making:
- Legal Authority: Legal boundaries and jurisdiction of the role.
- Deadly Force Standards: Strict criteria and thresholds for using force.
- De-Escalation Strategies: Verbal and tactical techniques to diffuse tension.
- Threat Identification: Assessing environments to isolate and identify hazards.
- Judgmental Decision Making: Critical thinking under high-stress conditions.
- Scenario-Based Training: Live-action roleplay and immersive simulations.
Per contractual agreements with our clients, your professional background must include the minimum of the following in order to be hired:
- Education: You have a high school education or equivalent (GED), or a college degree/transcript.
- Screening: You’re able to ace (and pass) an extensive background screening and drug test screening process.
- Age: You are at least 21 years of age or older as required by applicable law or contractual requirements.
